Prediction of the Box Office in Taipei

Abstract: The film industry plays an important role in the Taiwanese market, and so does box office prediction. Related work shows that classification models and information from social media improve box office prediction accuracy. This study combines movie dataset information from the Taiwanese government with popularity information from IMDb to do classification and regression prediction for the box office localized in Taipei. The result shows the Taipei box office can be predicted with 90% accuracy in the classification model and 88% accuracy in the regression model.
